How Long Does Ivermectin Take To Work In Horses
Ivermectin oral tablet works by binding to parts inside the parasite. It eventually paralyzes and kills off the parasite, or it stops adult parasites from making larvae for.
This reaction can be life-threatening and usually starts about a week after taking ivermectin (Stromectol) and includes a fever, hives, fast heart rate, swelling, and stomach pain. This is the body's reaction to the death of the worm larvae (baby worms).
The treatment may be repeated every 3 to 12 months. Each tablet contains 3 milligrams (mg) of ivermectin. Weighing 85 kg or more—150 mcg/kg of body weight taken as a single dose. Weighing 65 to 84 kg—4 tablets taken as a single dose. Weighing 45 to 64 kg—3 tablets taken as a single dose. Weighing 26 to 44 kg—2 tablets taken as a single dose.
There have been concerns that doses in early trials were too low and durations of treatment were too short. However, the higher doses (300 μg/kg–400 μg/kg per day for up to 3–5 days) used in the more recent TOGETHER and I-TECH trials did not demonstrate clinical benefit.
